As Infor’s Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Rick Parker is responsible for setting the strategy and overseeing the execution of all corporate and field marketing initiatives, including competitive analysis, pricing and partner programs, as well as brand management and lead generation activities around the world.
Though his 30 years’ experience in the technology industry includes starting new companies and leading them to success in a range of executive management positions, Parker says the marketing function is and always has been his primary passion. “I’ve always been drawn to it,” he says. “In marketing, you’re right in the middle of building the strategy that will carry the company and its customers forward. It’s an exciting place to be, especially at Infor, where we have the global opportunity to really make a difference—to help thousands of organizations be the enterprising companies they want to be.”
Parker’s career in technology began as did many during the advent of the personal computer—in his 20s in a small house he shared with friends. He left his Business Administration studies at the University of Minnesota to start a company that some what quickly became the number one personal business software program in North America. He calls it a true “sweat equity” experience that taught him entrepreneurial values he still applies today at Infor, though on a much larger scale.
Before he joined Infor in 2004, he was Executive Vice President at Nistevo, where he was responsible for strategy, marketing, investor relations, corporate strategic relationships and many aspects of business operations. Parker’s other management and marketing experience includes serving as President of Sterling Software’s business intelligence division, and as Director of Business Development for Metaphor Computer Systems. He also was Vice President of Marketing for Information Advantage, another company he co-founded. He played a key role in Information Advantage’s development from a privately held start-up to a $90 million public company.
