"This is the next iteration of 'Moneyball,' " Infor President Stephan Scholl told CNBC's "Squawk Box" commentators.
He and Brooklyn Nets player Jeremy Lin and CEO Brett Yormark talked on the popular TV show about the new wide-ranging partnership between Infor and the Nets that will apply big data analytics to the team - on and off the court - and Info's logo on player jerseys beginning in the 2017-2018 season.
"We're thrilled with the partnership with Infor," Yormark said. "We looked to identify not only a great strategic partner but one substantive enough to help us with performance. We've had an existing relationship with Infor. This was an opportunity to really amplify that and tap into their data analytics, their software, and to drive our business."
Yormark added: "When you think about great company alignment - with Infor, Brooklyn Nets and Nike -I don't think it gets much better than that."
When asked how data science is changing the way he trains and plays, Lin said, "The league is moving toward analytics. … Everyday they're looking at all the numbers - how long was I on the court, how many jumps did I take, how many steps did I take, how much distance did I cover. … There's a ridiculous amount of data, so being able to analyze all that and consolidate it is key."
"We're also bringing behavioral analytics to the table," Scholl said. "For example, what's the five-person team on the court when you're ten points down verses the five-person team when you're ten points up?"
