Following the devastating earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 that destroyed 20,000 homes in and around Christchurch, New Zealand, Infor Pacific recently participated in the Habitat Hand-up Christchurch Project to build 11 homes for families in need.
The build was part of Infor's global partnership with Habitat for Humanity International and our commitment to giving back to the community. Infor was joined by the Crusaders rugby team that Infor sponsors in Christchurch.
"This partnership reflects our continued commitment to being actively involved in the future of Christchurch and the wider Canterbury region," said Jo-Anne Ruhl, Infor Pacific managing director. "We are happy to be given the opportunity to contribute not only funding but volunteers towards the Christchurch builds."
Infor donated $10,000, and employees joined Crusaders players and staff to work on 11 homes in Bromley.
The build is part of a larger $7.6 million project by Habitat Hand-up Christchurch to construct a total of 21 homes for families displaced by the earthquakes and put them on the path to home ownership over a ten-year period.
Infor held a street party June 8, when the community, Infor employees, and Crusaders players came together to celebrate the success of the build. The children of the Habitat families particularly enjoyed interacting with the Crusaders. At the end of the party, Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder and players presented a tree to each of the 11 families to plant in their new gardens.
"It was humbling to be there and see how grateful these families are for the help they're receiving," Blackadder told the media. "But this is no handout. These families have been working incredibly hard themselves to get their new homes built, and it is awesome to see them so close to being able to move out of their current sub-standard living situations and into the new houses that they've been so involved in constructing."
"It was a great night for both Infor Pacific and the members of the Crusaders. Being able to interact with the families that will be receiving these new homes was an experience no one will soon forget," said Caitlin Reidy, Infor Asia Pacific & Middle East director of communications & events.
"We are looking forward to furthering our commitment to corporate social responsibility with the Crusaders and Habitat in the coming years," Ruhl said. "Great efforts by all who supported our cause."
