Infor, one of the largest global providers of business software, and Synergy Resources, an Infor partner and leading provider of software and services for manufacturing and distribution companies, today announced an in-kind gift of software and services valued at $165,000 to Binghamton University, State University of New York. The gift will enable the faculty to integrate Infor ERP VISUAL, a comprehensive ERP system used by more than 4,000 manufacturers worldwide, into the curriculum for engineering and management students at Binghamton.
The gift includes a VISUAL software license from Infor and implementation and training services from Synergy Resources. Using the software, students in the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of Management will learn how to manage the integrated supply chain for a company, ranging from manufacturing and purchasing to warehousing and distribution.
“VISUAL allows Binghamton University students to gain valuable hands-on experience using leading software,” said Binghamton University President Lois B. DeFleur. “The advances that our University can make by bringing together our bright students with inspired faculty and corporate friends such as Infor and Synergy Resources, strongly enhances the value of the student experience at Binghamton University.”
VISUAL has a long-standing track record of innovation in the ERP software market. It has helped thousands of large and small manufacturers improve productivity and profitability by providing real-time data on business operations. In today’s competitive manufacturing and industrial markets, companies must be able to provide quality products quickly and within a predictable delivery schedule. VISUAL is ideal for these environments due to the built-in business-specific functionality which allows for rapid implementation and ease of use.
“It is important for young engineering and management students in this country to gain a working knowledge of ERP systems,” said Binghamton University alumnus Gene Caiola of Synergy Resources, who leveraged his long-time relationship with Infor to make available VISUAL to Binghamton University. “Using the software as a learning tool, these students will gain a competitive edge in the job market and can make an immediate positive impact on manufacturing in this country.”
Under the guidance of faculty in the Watson School, VISUAL will also be used to foster collaboration between the University’s academic environment and local business and industry.
“The connection between the classroom and industry is the backbone of the Watson School,” said Dean Seshu Desu. “We believe in being an active driver in the economic development of the region. In addition to educating students on the use of ERP systems, the gift will allow the school to further develop research and projects to keep companies competitive and nimble.”
“Infor ERP VISUAL is an excellent resource for students because it combines the latest technologies and business processes together with years of built-in manufacturing experience,” said Kevin Piotrowski, Infor’s director of industry and product marketing for discrete industries. “We are proud to work with Synergy Resources to offer VISUAL to Binghamton University and look forward to its contribution in helping shape the next generation of manufacturing leaders.”
Infor ERP VISUAL provides manufacturers an extensive integrated solution to source, plan, make, and deliver their products. The solution gives businesses powerful management capabilities through a built-in workflow system, allowing them to build and implement the controls they require. More than 4,000 manufacturers globally depend on VISUAL to gain insight into their supply chain, improve compliance management and support lean initiatives.
