Don’t stay stuck in the past
Being the 35th person hired by Datastream, 25 years ago (long before the Infor® acquisition), has provided me some interesting insights into the evolution of enterprise asset management (EAM). Computerized maintenance management systems (CMMSs) were just in their infancy then, and you could carry a client’s database around on a floppy disk. “They don’t make them like they used to.” And it’s a good thing because we’ve come a long way… Or have we?
Despite all the technical advancements and additional capabilities that have come since then—in nearly every assessment I perform—I find that there are many clients who are still stuck in the past. If you’re not actively harvesting the data that EAM provides, and just pushing out work orders, you’ve not shed the shackles of CMMS.

I think you’ll find that bad data is worse than no data—and with a minimal amount of effort, you can have metrics that mean something.
