FedRAMP Gives Public Sector Managers Peace of Mind on Cloud Security

There’s good news to be had for federal managers who’ve been hearing about cloud computing, curious about what it can do, but nervous about staking the security of critical IT systems on an off-premises system.
Since 2011, the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) has been helping federal, state and municipal government agencies across the United States navigate the myriad of security considerations that must be addressed to make the benefits of cloud computing a reality for public sector agencies. With Infor aiming for full FedRAMP compliance by the end of this year, the stage is set for cash-strapped agencies and programs to cut their IT costs 30 to 40%, while giving users the level of data security they need and want.
Infor has introduced a comprehensive cloud development strategy that treats FedRAMP as a service differentiator, even beyond the federal marketplace.
The Transformation: How to Do More with Less
There’s an old saying that “you don’t do more with less. You do less with less.” Whoever said it never had a chance to experience cloud computing.

GSA is setting a tremendously important example. The cloud has the power to drive digital transformation across the public sector, helping employees deliver more effective, responsive services to constituents—from businesses that need licenses and permits to members of the public looking for essential information. Those users expect the same seamless, convenient service from public agencies that they’ve become accustomed to with commercial IT.
“From routine call center operations to emergency services, citizens expect the public sector to deliver timely, efficient, informed, courteous service over an unprecedented mix of channels,” Bobby notes. “To deliver on that promise, front-line personnel need the support of IT systems that will help them get the job done.”
A System-Wide Change
But modernizing digital delivery is about more than front-end services. A successful transformation depends on upgraded back-office systems that align human resources, finance, and procurement and mission-oriented systems that include supply chain, logistics, and maintenance solutions behind a common business objective. With a target that big and wide-ranging, legacy IT systems become a hindrance, not a help. Which is why cloud computing has to be at the center of the process, and cloud security becomes such an important concern for public sector managers.
