The 20th HR Technology Conference
October 4, 2017If you haven’t attended The HR Technology Conference before, this year’s event will be one of the best yet! Highlights are sure to include Women in HR on Tuesday. Guest speaker, Christina Van Houten, will be showcasing her book, “Men@Work: A Career Girl’s Guide to Navigating Male Archetypes, Achieving Success and Finding Happiness.” Be sure and arrive Monday at 11:20AM to check it out, and this goes for the guys and the gals. This isn’t a women only event so be sure and attend!
Some tips to make sure you get the most out of your time there.
Walk and Talk the Expo Hall
All of the major players will be there. Make sure you take the time to really explore the products from each vendor and network with the employees who work there. The gifts are cool to take home to your children and colleagues but make sure you talk with the vendors. Ask them to tell you about their company, ask them how they are addressing industry trends such as employee engagement, continuous performance reviews, culture and employer brand, etc. Use the time to ask them how they handle pain points that you’re currently experiencing. Be sure and check out the demos! Coming from someone who’s won a Vespa and Ipad at the event when I was a customer I can guarantee you that the drawings encouraging you to hear about each vendors latest innovations are NOT rigged!
Also, if you have time, check out the “Awesome New Technologies” that are featured, which are live product demonstrations of the best new technology from every part of HR! Infor Team Dynamics will be featured as part of this year's line-up on October 11, 2017 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Venetian.
Network and Connect while there!
Network and connect with your colleagues, many of them are moving through similar phases of evaluating vendors, working through implementations, determining who to hire, whether they should go with a comprehensive implementation or phased deployment model. Lunches, break out sessions and special events are a great way to meet others! In fact, Infor is hosting HR Happy Hour, the longest running and top downloaded HR podcast, on Wednesday, October 11, from 10:00 am- 11:00 am, and Thursday, October 12th from 10:30 am- Noon, at booth 1762. Hosts Trish McFarlane, VP of Product Management at Infor, Steve Boese, Co-Chair of the HR Technology Conference, and George LaRocque, Principal Analyst & Founder of #HRWINS will be in the Infor booth conducting interviews with Infor leadership, thought leaders, and customers! Stop by!!
Attend the sessions!
The customer sessions are always the coveted entries for the conference planners. They want to hear directly from the customers how things are going, what’s working and what’s not. There will be several great customer sessions, one of my favorite CHRO’s is Lisa Abbott from Lifespan Health (Beyond HR — Leading the “Business” of Human Capital Management in a 24/7 World at 4:00PM on Thursday, October 12). She’ll be talking about how her HR Technology strategy had a positive impact on the business strategy of her organization. Learn from her about how she moved the needle to improve healthcare for patients through her leadership and HR Shared Service Model.
In addition, Infor’s Director of HCM Strategy & Product Management, Dale Kennedy, is a panelist on Friday, October 13 from 10:45AM – 11:45AM on Ideas and Innovators in HR.
Steve Boese has promoted his top trends in HR, see here for more detail. You can expect to see vendors talking about Candidate Relationship Management, Artificial Intelligence, Employee Engagement, Culture, Employer Brand, Continuous Performance Management. Dig in and learn more about what each of these vendors are doing in this area. Ask them to show you what’s already been developed.
The opening keynote is generally packed with well-intended professionals, many of whom have their laptops out and are emailing folks back at the ranch. Put away your devices and really connect with others while at the event. There are several industry experts, influencers, analysts, thought leaders who all want to connect and engage with you.
Last but not least this may be one of the rare occasions where what goes on in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas so be sure and take back what you learn to your colleagues.
