A self-inflicted shower of ice water. Could this be a good thing? During Customer Service Week, Infor Xtreme Support EMEA employees took the plunge to raise funds.
"In spite of the cold ice water, this team effort for charity felt heart-warming," enthused Pim van Duinen, a product support analyst in Infor’s office in Barneveld, the Netherlands, who took the Infor Bucket Challenge.
"We are Infor Support, and helping others is in our DNA. Alongside our fun activities during Customer Service Week, we decided to raise money for the International Red Cross, as their help to others is lifesaving and very important to support," explained Marina ter Haar, senior manager of support operations in Barneveld.
At Infor Xtreme Support offices in cities across Europe—Barneveld, Netherlands; Barcelona, Spain; Prague, Czech Republic; Den Bosch, Netherlands; Grenoble, France; Milan, Italy; Turin, Italy; and Erkrath, Germany—EMEA Support Teams organized fundraisers for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The Infor Bucket Challenge—modeled on the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge—began with Marcel van Schaik, senior director of support operations in Barneveld, challenging his fellow EMEA Support team managers to take the plunge. They all accepted his dare and, in turn, challenged other team members. Over a two-week period, "the Infor Bucket Challenge spread like an oil stain," van Schaik said.
With an average temperature of 5-8 °C (41-46 °F), it was a brave yet fun deed to dump the bucket, ter Haar said.
"I was positively surprised at the snowball effect of this action. Within 10 days, over 30 people participated from various locations across EMEA," van Schaik said. "It was a lot of fun for Inforians participating and the public watching. And, of course, the challenge brought in donations for ICRC."

In addition to the bucket challenge, several teams held auctions, selling products and services to raise money.
- The Barcelona Support Team auctioned off items like games for kids, perfumes, and home décor.
- The Barneveld Team built an e-auction site that featured goodies like wine and books, and services like shoe-cleaning and a baking service of typical Dutch homemade kruidkoek.
These initiatives, combined with donations from Infor Support Team members, raised more than $1,000 USD for the International Red Cross to help victims of conflict worldwide.
"Thanks a lot, guys!" van Schaik said. "I am proud to be part of this great team."
