Infor Sponsors ‘SciGirls’ PBS Series

United States – March 02, 2015, 13:00 PM

Infor is sponsoring the third season of Twin Cities Public Television's (tpt) national series "SciGirls." The PBS television series and popular web destination for young people ages 8-13 showcases girls using science and engineering in their daily lives and encourages them to pursue careers in related fields.

Infor understands that today's conversations, connections, and careers are powered by computer science and software. But the computer science-what makes our technological devices work-is hidden beneath the interfaces of our devices. This confuses what it means to be "computer literate." For example, interacting with apps and social media like Facebook or Twitter is very different from making, tweaking, or understanding the technology that makes them work.

For that reason, Infor is investing for the first time to support and partner with "SciGirls" to help in educating young people about the careers available in computer science, and how those jobs affect our communities-and influence our world.

"Infor is focused on helping build and shape tomorrow's workforce, and this program demonstrates creative ways to engage young people-especially girls-in STEM learning," said Mary Trick, Infor executive vice president. "Sponsoring 'SciGirls' is a natural expansion of our learning-focused platform, which includes partnering with New York-based CodeNow and the Infor Education Alliances Program, helping develop the people we hope to hire one day."

Infor is also hosting a "Fash Bash" on March 12 at its New York City headquarters. This STEM-filled event will give kids an up-close look-and a hands-on opportunity-to check out the Infor software currently used by design, textile, and fashion companies, and talk to the creative innovators who work in these fields.
