Ferrari Gains F1 Momentum with Hungarian Grand Prix Win
Sebastian Vettel and the Infor-sponsored Scuderia Ferrari team notched their second Formula One victory of the season with the Hungarian Grand Prix this week.
Sunday's dramatic Hungarian Grand Prix win is being called Vettel's best race of the 2015 season so far, and it's fueling Ferrari's bid to revive their F1 campaign.
Vettel also won the Malaysia Grand Prix in March, and is currently in third place in the overall standings.
The Hungarian Grand Prix win was emotional as Vettel dedicated it to former Ferrari reserve driver Jules Bianchi, who died July 17 and whose funeral Vettel and many F1 drivers attended Tuesday before the race. Bianchi suffered severe head injuries in a crash at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix and never recovered.
The BBC.com reports: "Vettel said in French over the radio on his slowing down lap: 'Merci, Jules. Cette victoire est pour toi.' (Thank you, Jules. This victory is for you). He added in English: 'You will always be in our hearts. We know sooner or later you would have been in this team.' "
Ferrari's other driver, Kimi Raikkonen, had mechanical trouble and had to retire from the race.
"A fantastic win!" declared Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene. "Both Seb and Kimi had a tremendous start and being able to drive in clean air surely made a difference."
"It has been a week with a lot of ups and downs and as I said after the race I dedicate this win to Jules and his family," Vettel said. "We had a great start, and after that, we had great pace and were able to control the race. … Thanks to all our partners for their support."
