Why Collaboration is the Next Approach for Fashion
"Seduce the consumer and control the supply." That fashion industry mantra is old hat, says Infor Fashion's Bob McKee. Rather, "we need to change our mission to 'listen to the consumer and collaborate across the entire value chain.' "
On the heels of a successful outing at the 2014 National Retail Federation conference and trade show, McKee, global industry strategy director for Infor Fashion, lays out his approach to engaging customers and managing inventory in an article in Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine titled "Transforming the Fashion Supply Chain through Collaboration."
McKee says his revelation came at an International Apparel Federation conference a few years ago, when he was a scheduled speaker. He told the group:
"One of our previous speakers told us that our mission is to 'seduce the consumer and control the supply chain.' " I continued, "As I thought about it, I recognized that this model is nearly at the end of its useable life. As we look to how modern technology is enabling us to sense demand and respond almost instantaneously—we need to change our mission to 'listen to the consumer and collaborate across the entire value chain.'"
This concept was radical to some, and fitting to others. McKee goes on to explain his position.
