Embracing the bright side during Diwali

Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, symbolizes the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. The five-day celebration—this year Nov 12-16—traditionally involves spending time with family, exchanging gifts and pleasantries, distributing sweets and snacks, and visiting the temple. This year, because of COVID-19 restrictions, the Infor India team had to be creative in their celebration, finding virtual ways to honor the traditions.

In previous years, employees in India celebrated by coming to the office in traditional attire and holding a fashion show. They participated in artistic competitions, like painting traditional clay lamps or pots, or making rangoli (flower decorations). The Club for Amusement, Recreation and Entertainment (CARE) also distributed sweets to employees.

This year’s virtual event involved safe distancing but kept the essence of the celebration. Event organizers invited employees to submit videos of themselves singing, playing instruments, or dancing. A compilation was created and shared with the entire team, along with inspiring messages from team leaders.

“This Diwali brings us more strength, courage, and resilience to stand strong on our commitment to our customers, togetherness, love to the family, and responsibility to society, in spite of all the social and economic challenges posed by COVID,” said Ranga Pothula, SVP of Consulting Practices. “I wish all employees and their families stay safe and healthy, and have a wonderful, colorful Diwali.”
