Infor CEO Charles Phillips recently presented the keynote address at a Marine Corps Birthday Ball celebrating 237 years of the Corps.
"This is a dream come true for someone who was in the 2/10 to come back," said Phillips, a former captain with the 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines, during his remarks. "Being a Marine means everything."
Led by Lt. Col. Phillip Bragg, the 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines held its Marine Corps Birthday Ball in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Dec. 21 with Phillips as guest of honor. The 2/10 is an artillery battalion stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Nov. 10 was the actual birthday of the US Marines Corps, but the battalion was deployed at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan and returned in December after a successful deployment.
Phillips also talked about how Marines continue to support each other in civilian life.
"The way I got my first job on Wall Street was a former Marine, seeing that on my resume, said, 'I'm going to give this guy a shot, no matter what.' That brotherhood extends outside the Marine Corps, and goes on for a long, long way. …
"I'm on the board of the Posse Foundation. What we do is take squads of veterans and put them through college together as a unit, because they tend to do much better if eight to ten of them go together."
