Troubleshooting Cloverleaf Configurations

We've all been there when someone opens a Cloverleaf configuration to examine how something was configured.  And now there's a lock on the configuration file.

When this happens, you must call the other developer to close the open configuration (normally the NetConfig file).  But what if they don't completely close out of the Cloverleaf IDE (Integrated Development Environment) correctly?  What if it isn't working yet?  If you break the lock, and they're working on changes, then they'll either write over yours or you'll write over theirs.

There must be a better way to handle this.

Well, there are multiple ways to handle it.  In this blog, we'll talk about opening configuration files with read-only access.  We're covering it this way because it will work with no security, basic security, or advanced security.

The first method is using the Cloverleaf Site Manager in the IDE.  Click on the configuration you'd like to open, then right-click, and you'll see an "Open in read-only" mode.  This will open the configuration as read-only.  If you only see "Open in edit mode," open the configuration anyway.  It will open automatically as read-only.

The second method is opening the Server Administration (Administrator), then clicking on the Advanced tab.  Under "Open Tools Options," you can select the checkbox to open Tools as read-only.  Then, select File and Save.  After that, you'll need to bounce the server.

  • Note: If you bounce the host server, it will look like everything's gone down for users in the Cloverleaf IDE Network Monitor and Cloverleaf Global Monitor.

Bouncing the server will automatically open the configurations as read-only.  If you need to open in edit mode, select the configuration from the site manager, then right-click and choose the "Open in edit mode" option.  If you've already opened the configuration, go to the file and click "Change to edit mode."

This will help resolve the issue of locked configuration files.

Stay tuned for our next Cloverleaf blog, which will discuss locking with version control.
